Meet Shanti: My Peaceful Home on Wheels

thelostcosmicdust

The idea of living in a van struck me shortly after getting into climbing. Yep, as cliche as it could be. I was always a minimalist but reducing your living space and things to the size of a van was something I never thought I'd do. Four months in, I can proudly say this was the best fucking decision of my life. Not only was I able to reduce my carbon footprint by generating my own electricity and using 1/5th the quantity of water I usually used, but I have also never felt so content in owning basically almost nothing.

Shanti is a 2000 Ford Econoline E150 HI-top Van. Her rusty, yet beautiful red made me fall in love with her the second I saw her.A beautiful couple had converted her into a campervan and upon purchase, I remodeled the kitchen and made a new pullout bed. To make my lifestyle a little more eco-friendly, I put up a 240W solar panel on a GoalZero Yeti 1250 to ensure my phone, lights, fridge, stove, laptop and GoPro always stay operational and charged.

I'll post more about the build, the interior and some tips in the coming posts.

Feel free to reach out if you are planning to pursue the van life and need help with van modification!! Happy Van Life.
